Intro

The Institute for Workforce Education & Development (IWED) is a company of Manpower and Maintenance Services Limited (MMS). It was established to extend MMS’ strength in workforce development in the finest training for advancement in the field of technical and vocational education (Tech-Voc) for its learners/clients. IWED continuously researches, accesses information and knowledge to ensure that its clients acquire training based on current practices, techniques and developments.

IWED Trains:

  1. Employees from institutions on contract with MMS
  2. Persons seeking placement through the MMS Placement Agency
  3. Individuals already in/entering the hospitality, construction and other industries
  4. Persons seeking employment in the regional/international job market
  5. Individuals who are interested in their own personal growth and development

IWED’s tech-voc training programmes are planned, designed and delivered through business/education partnerships to:

  • Provide-work related skills training for the employed, those seeking employment and those who need a base to advance to higher education
  • Provide a link between education/training and the world of work
  • Develop a command of practical skills
  • Develop the trainee’s ability to function as part of a team
  • Provide a background for developing positive work attitudes

IWED offers courses that are geared to a wide cross-section of individuals, including:

  • Pre-university students
  • Customer Service Agents (cashiers, office clerks, waiters/waitresses, receptionists, bearers, security guards, etc.)
  • Food handlers in supermarkets, restaurants and offices
  • Aspiring housekeepers/ room attendants
  • Service station pump operators, messengers/couriers, drivers, handymen
  • Frontline supervisors in hotels and restaurants
  • Employees entering the workforce for the first time
  • New and practising receptionists and clerical assistants
  • Entry level, Team Leaders/ Middle Managers for the BPO Sector
  • Landscapers, gardeners, grounds maintenance

Entrance Requirements

IWED also offers certificate courses to improve the productivity of the workforce in various industries. Applicants may be required to sit the Institute’s entrance test to be eligible for enrolment in certificate courses. This test includes Basic English Grammar, Reasoning and Basic Mathematics. Certificate courses may be customized to the client’s specifications.

Certifying Bodies/ Customized Courses

IWED offers programmes that are certifiable through the NCTVET (NVQ-J), City and Guilds or other certifying organizations. Assessment is arranged with the appropriate accrediting organization and/or individuals. The cost of these courses does not include the cost for examination/accreditation.

Other workplace specific courses will be designed on contract.

IWED offers a series of high impact one-day courses designed to get to the heart of pertinent workplace issues. Highly qualified and experienced facilitators conduct these courses in a comfortable, risk free environment from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Fridays or Saturdays.

One day training is also done at clients’ venues in keeping with their schedule.
